The Northeast Comprehensive Center (NCC) and the Great Teachers and Leaders (GTL) Center collaboratively facilitated a 90 minute webinar entitled “Voices from the Field: Early Experiences with State Equity Plan Implementation.” The need for the webinar grew out of a request from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MA ESE) to learn how other states are managing equitable access work across departments. In response to this request, the GTL Center and the NCC designed an interview protocol, which the GTL Center then used to interview SEA staff from 10 states who lead the equity work. The webinar focused on the findings of these interviews and provided an opportunity for interviewees to answer questions and share lessons learned with northeast states.

As a result of the interviews and webinar, participating northeast states gleaned strategies to consider in more effectively responding to their equitable access challenges and barriers. An opportunity also arose for increased networking among and between northeast states as well as other states across the country.
