Year 6 Project Overview: New York School Library Media Program Evaluation Rubric

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) School Library Media Program Evaluation (SLMPE) rubric helps frame a current statewide conversation among stakeholders on the most promising practices for building strong school library programs. Evidence suggests that the rubric needs to be revised in order to address current practices and needs.

NCC will manage the revision process and bring the field together to agree upon a new version of the rubric. NCC will identify and virtually convene all the different organization representatives, guide the group through a rubric review process, and use stakeholder survey data to inform changes. At the end of the process, NYSED will have a rubric that is current, meaningful, relevant, and supportive of student achievement and developed by members of the library community with stakeholder feedback.

Progress to Date

  • NCC has identified a work group that will revise the essential elements within the rubric. NCC will continue to facilitate monthly work group meetings and coordinate tasks and deliverables to move this work forward.

Research, Resources and Collaborations

NCC is utilizing research developed by the American Library Association to ensure that the rubric is kept current, useful and relevant.
