For the past five years, NCC has assisted the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and a third-party videographer in the development of videos documenting research based practices in low-performing schools that have made significant gains in student achievement. A total of 11 videos have been created and are used for professional learning purposes by DESE.

Previously, NCC also worked with DESE to develop viewing guides that accompanied the first set of three videos. These guides helped support professional learning using the videos. NCC will work with DESE to create 2 new videos, and to develop additional viewing guides to accompany the existing and new videos. The viewing guides will include content that facilitates user engagement with the best practices highlighted in the videos, such as questions for discussion and reflection, connections to additional research and resources, and linkages to DESE’s initiatives.

As a result of the Year 7 work, DESE will have new videos and accompanying viewing guides that will assist DESE and other users of the video in their professional learning.
