The Northeast Comprehensive Center (NCC) continues its work with the Maine Department of Education focused on the development of policies and practices related to educator effectiveness and evaluation, supports for improving school performance, and supporting high quality programming in Maine’s Public Preschool Program.
Our state activities consist of:
- Working in partnership with other regional technical assistance providers, NCC staff facilitate work with Maine Department of Education personnel to design and implement services to support chronically underperforming schools. This work aims to build a collaborative and more comprehensive system of support for the state’s lowest performing schools, increase the use of data sources, and utilize the knowledge base from The Center on School Turnaround resources and practices.
- Providing facilitation and research support to state education leaders and stakeholders, guiding their efforts towards implementation of 2010 and 2011 laws focused on educator evaluation, teachers’ and administrators’ continuous improvement, and professional growth.
- Conducting technical assistance and consulting services to SEA staff members in the State Agency Interdepartmental Early Learning Team (SAIEL) at the Maine Department of Education in support of newly adopted Public Preschool Program quality standards (Chapter 124: Basic Approval Standards: Public Preschool Programs). For example, NCC supported SAIEL staff to develop a program quality self-assessment document based on the new, high quality program standards to serve as a baseline of information about program implementation and inform state-level supports.
