The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) has accepted a Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE) fellow to examine current teacher certification regulations, identify actual and perceived obstacles for intrastate and interstate certification requirements, and  propose recommendations for modernizing processes and determining certification requirements needed to meet the demands of the education workforce including increasing the diversity of the teacher workforce in Connecticut.

In Year 7, the NCC staff will work with the LEE fellow, the CSDE Chief Talent Office, and staff within Bureau of Certification to provide technical assistance, facilitation, guidance, and certification expertise to assist the fellow and the Talent Office to analyze and develop certification recommendations to help ensure that Connecticut students have access to qualified teachers in all academic disciplines.

As a result of this assistance, CSDE will have long and short-term recommendations for reducing barriers to becoming a certified Connecticut educator and modernizing certification opportunities to better meet the needs of the educator workforce.
