Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) has been working to diversify its workforce and develop the cultural competence of educators as a strategy for addressing gaps in equitable access to effective educators.

In Year 7, NCC will continue to collaborate with CSDE to support:

  • CSDE’s documentation of the work of high need districts that diversified their workforce based on increased knowledge of bias and effective strategies for diversifying the workforce
  • CSDE’s production of a guidance resource, Diversifying the Workforce through Culturally Competent Hiring Practices, that features the research, strategies implemented by CSDE and district teams, and tools and processes for building awareness of bias in hiring and for developing and implementing policies and practices that work.
  • District teams to strengthen and codify their policies and strategies to significantly increase the percentage of teachers and administrators of color in their districts
